Quick Review :
When we talk about budget smartphones in India, Redmi (or Xiaomi or Mi), is the biggest brand so they claim as well. All the models from the brand has been a hit and broken records from previous model. The quality and the performance of their handsets do the talking and suitable for most of the Indian buyers’ pockets. Xiaomi has received similar results from Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite. Brand is putting them on flash sale once again. As a part of Amazon flash sale, the Redmi Y1 is priced at Rs 8,999 and Rs 10,999 for the 3GB RAM+32GB storage version and 4GB RAM+64GB storage variants. The less powerful Redmi Y1 Lite comes in only one variants, 2GB RAM + 16GB storage, priced at Rs 6,999. When our experts put both models side by side, the phones were hardly different apart from front camera. Still what they liked about the new model is its hardware, solid, robust and still looks premium and comfortable in hands.
If we go in the details, at the front side above display, it has the selfie camera, earpiece and a light sensor. There are unlit navigation keys below the display. Power or lock key is on the right with volume adjusting keys. There are two slots on the left — one for dual SIM cards and another for to the microSD card. At the bottom, you will find a micro USB port with the primary microphone and the top of the phone houses a 3.5mm audio jack and an IR blaster, which is a trending feature these days. There’s the primary camera at the back with LED flash on the top left corner and the speaker frame is at the bottom.
The Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite has a 5.5-inch HD IPS LCD display with 720×1280 pixel resolution. Our experts compared this display with other budget handsets, the model that was closest match was the Redmi 4 itself. The pixel density does come to 267 pixels per inch though, which means you’ll struggle to spot any pixilation, unless you’re very close to the screen. You can make certain changes with manually and but there are certain limitations within which these models perform.
